Stopping is the layer nobody sees and everybody notices when it is wrong. A flashed joint or a proud fastener shows through paint the moment the light rakes across it. We build our coats properly and sand to a true plane, so your walls read as one clean surface from any angle.

We check the sheets, fasteners and joins are set and ready to stop.

Joints are taped and bedded so the surface stays flat and crack-free.

Stopping coats
Multiple stopping coats build the join out level with the board face.

Fine sand and finish
We sand to a flat plane and hand over ready for paint, level 4 or 5.

GIB stopping, answered
What is the difference between level 4 and level 5?
Level 5 adds a full skim coat over the whole surface for the flattest possible finish, best under gloss paint or raking light. Level 4 suits most homes. We advise which your job needs.
Do you do repairs as well as new builds?
Yes. We patch cracked or damaged plasterboard, re-stop failed joints and blend repairs into the existing wall so they disappear under paint.
Can you paint once the stopping is done?
We can. Many clients have us stop and then paint in one run, so the walls are finished by one team and the handover is seamless.
Stopped walls are ready for our interior painting, and we can take the outside on with exterior painting too.
